Jan Bengtsson

He was born on August 17 1760 on the farm Höjen in Eds parish, Värmlands county. His parents were the farmer Bengt Jansson and his wife Elin Bengtsdotter.

Seventeen years old, in 1777, he left his parents home and got a job as a farmhand on different farms within the parish. First at the farm Malöga, later on the farms Kollerud, Ås, Lilla Häggvik and Stora Häggvik. In between he was also living at home in Hojen.

In 1790 he stared working as a farmhand for the farmer Anders Jönsson on the farm Stora Häggvik. Later the same year, on November 14, he got married to his daughter Kjerstin Andersdotter. Jan and his wife lived on Stora Häggvik until 1792. After that they lived for a short period on the farm that Jan came from, Höjen, and later they moved to the farm Malöga in the same parish.

In 1794 the family had moved back to the farm Höjen. The main farm in Höjen was at that time owned by Jans five years older brother Bengt. With his brother lived their mother and widdow Elin Bengtsdotter. Jan and his family farmed their part of the farm until 1840 when their youngest son Lars and his wife Maria Olofsdotter took over the farm.

Jan lived at Höjen for the rest of his life and died, at an age of 88, on June 15 1848. He died from "age-weakness" and was buried on June 18. By the time of his death he had been a widdower for little more than a year.
